Marine Corps Physical Fitness Standards for Women

Marine Corps Physical Fitness Standards for Women Marine Corps Physical Fitness Standards for Women Like other branches of the military, Marines have high fitness standards for all of their personnel. Every Marine must be physically fit, regardless of age, grade or duty assignment. Fitness is essential to the day-to-day effectiveness and combat readiness of the Marine Corps, so all Marines take part in ongoing physical conditioning. The Marine Corps physical conditioning platoon consists of a physical fitness test and a body composition program for new recruits. Enlisted Marines have to undergo a semi-annual physical fitness test (PFT). Here are the requirements for women in the Marines taking the semi-annual PFT. Sequence of Events for Womens Marines Fitness Test The sequence of PFT events will be left to the discretion of the commanding officer. All PFT events are conducted in a single session, not to exceed two hours in duration. As they move from one event to the next, Marines should allow adequate time to recover, stretch and drink water. These are the exercises included in the standard PFT: Flexed-Arm Hang The goal of the flexed-arm hang event is for a Marine to maintain elbow flexion and hang for as long as possible.  The bar must be grasped with both palms facing either forward or to the rear. The correct starting position begins when the MarineĆ¢€™s arms are flexed at the elbow, the chin is held above the bar, but not touching it, and the body is motionless. At no time during this exercise should a Marine rest her chin on the bar. Marines are authorized to drop down below the bar, however, some degree of elbow flexion must be maintained with both arms. Once a Marines arms are fully extended or the Marine drops off the bar, the clock will stop. Abdominal Crunches The goal of the abdominal crunch event is for a Marine to execute as many proper and complete crunches as possible within the two-minute time limit. She will lie on a flat surface, with  shoulder blades touching the deck, knees bent and both feet flat on the deck. A single repetition consists of raising the upper body from the starting position until both forearms or elbows simultaneously touch the thighs, and then returning to the starting position with the shoulder blades touching the deck. No arching of the lower back or lifting the buttocks is permitted. An assistant may be used to hold a Marines legs or feet, at or below the knees in whatever manner that is most comfortable for the Marine.   A repetition will be counted when an accurate and complete abdominal crunch is performed. Three-Mile Run The goal is for a Marine to complete the measured course as quickly as possible. The Command PT Representative will remain at the start/finish and the other monitor will take the safety vehicle (with communication capabilities) to the halfway point. Monitors will call out the split or finishing time as appropriate, as each Marine passes. Making the Grade Marines earn fitness test points based on times and repetitions. In order to pass the semi-annual fitness test, Marines must perform the minimum acceptable performance requirements shown in the charts below for their age group. Additionally, they must have enough overall points to meet the 3rd class fitness requirements.
